Terms and Conditions
Booking & Payment
Storybook Faces requires a signed service agreement for an event to be officially booked. For events scheduled more than three (3) months in advance, a deposit may be required.
The remaining balance is due by the end of the event. We accept Square or Zelle prior to the event, and cash or cashier’s check at the event. Square payments are subject to an additional processing fee.
Quotes are based on the minimum number of hours requested on the contact form. Services will conclude at the agreed-upon end time unless additional time is approved in advance by the Client.
In some cases, payment arrangements after the event may be approved. Any payment not received within two (2) weeks of the event date will be considered late and may be subject to a late fee, unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
Services Provided
Artists typically arrive 10–20 minutes early to allow time for setup. While every effort is made to arrive early, unforeseen circumstances such as traffic or weather may cause delays. In such cases, the Client will be notified and the artist will arrive as soon as safely possible.
If attendance exceeds expectations and the artist does not have a subsequent commitment, additional time may be added at an agreed-upon hourly rate.
For events exceeding three (3) hours, the artist may take a brief 10-minute break every two (2) hours, as needed.
The estimated number of children painted per hour assumes guests are present and ready in succession. For more casual or staggered schedules, additional time should be planned.
Line Management for High-Attendance Events
For festivals, markets, and other high-attendance events, effective line management is essential to ensure a smooth guest experience and timely service completion. Storybook Faces may require the event organizer to provide a designated staff member or volunteer to manage the line, communicate cut-off times, and assist with crowd flow.
The designated line manager is also responsible for holding the line during brief artist breaks, including restroom use, so services may resume efficiently and conclude on schedule. If adequate line management is not provided, services will end at the agreed-upon time, even if guests remain in line.
Child Supervision
For everyone’s safety, the artist is unable to supervise children without a parent, guardian, or designated adult present. Children’s behavior and safety remain the responsibility of the Client and/or Parent at all times.
Face Paint Care & Other Activities
Storybook Faces uses high-quality, professional face paints. However, we cannot guarantee the longevity of designs when combined with other activities such as bounce houses, swimming pools, sweating, or water play.
The quoted service time does not include touch-ups or repainting. Clients are encouraged to plan event activities accordingly.
Working Conditions, Safety & Break Coordination
Storybook Faces works collaboratively with event organizers to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees. If unsafe or extreme working conditions arise, the artist will notify the Client or event organizer and allow an opportunity for the situation to be resolved.
If conditions cannot be remedied, the artist reserves the right to pause or discontinue services and leave the event without refund.
Adverse conditions may include, but are not limited to: destructive, violent, or inappropriate behavior by a child, pet, or adult; illegal activities; or hazardous weather conditions such as lightning or severe storms.
For festivals, markets, or events exceeding three (3) hours, access to bathroom facilities is required. During brief restroom breaks, the event organizer or designated staff member is responsible for monitoring and holding the line. Breaks are kept brief and planned to minimize disruption to guests and event flow.
Outdoor Events
The Client is responsible for providing an alternate indoor location in the event of inclement weather.
Artists are unable to paint outdoors when temperatures fall below 50°F unless informed in advance so appropriate preparations can be made.
If Storybook Faces is asked to provide an easy-up tent, lighting, or additional equipment, extra charges may apply. In these cases, setup requires access to the event space up to one (1) hour before start time and after event completion. A minimum level space of 10’ L x 10’ W x 11’ H is required for tents.
Rescheduling & Cancellations
Requests to reschedule should be made at least one (1) week prior to the event. We will do our best to accommodate changes when possible. Exceptions may be made in cases of hospitalization or emergency.
For inclement weather, a rain-check may be issued with at least 24 hours’ notice. Rain-checks are valid for the same or equivalent service within one (1) year, subject to artist availability. Notices given with less than 24 hours’ notice may result in forfeiture of any deposit.
If an event is canceled within 5 hours, any deposit may be applied toward a future event within one (1) year, subject to availability. If the deposit is not used within that time, it is forfeited.
If Storybook Faces must cancel due to illness or emergency, we will attempt to provide a trusted replacement artist or issue a full refund.
Liability Statement
Storybook Faces uses FDA-approved, cosmetic-grade face and body painting products. However, we are not responsible for allergic reactions. Guests with sensitive skin or allergies are encouraged not to participate or to request a patch test at the start of the event.
Darker pigments may temporarily stain skin. Paint can be removed with mild soap, water, a washcloth, or makeup remover.
For safety reasons, artists will not paint anyone who is unwilling, distressed, crying, visibly ill, or appears to have contagious conditions, open wounds, or skin irritations. These determinations are at the artist’s discretion.
Artists use reasonable care but are not responsible for damage to clothing or property. The Client agrees to assume responsibility for accidents, injuries, or damage caused by guests, pets, sprinklers, or other environmental factors.
Balloon Safety
Latex balloons can pose a choking hazard. Broken or deflated balloons should be disposed of immediately. Children under seven (7) must be under constant adult supervision while playing with balloons.
Storybook Faces uses 100% biodegradable latex balloons. Balloons should never be released and must be disposed of properly.
The Client agrees not to hold Storybook Faces liable for injuries or allergic reactions related to balloons.
Subject Matter
Artists reserve the right to decline face paint or balloon designs that are offensive, disturbing, or outside their comfort level.
Private Parties (Birthdays, Home Events, Small Gatherings)
Space requirements:
Storybook Faces brings everything needed for face painting, including a table and chairs. We just ask for a small, clean area (about 6 ft x 6 ft) to set up comfortably. A well-lit spot away from heavy foot traffic helps keep things running smoothly and safely for everyone.
Line Flow & Scheduling
For private parties, the Client is responsible for helping organize children, so services can proceed smoothly and on schedule. Services conclude at the agreed-upon end time. Additional time may be added only if approved in advance and if the artist is available.
Child Supervision
For everyone’s safety, the artist cannot supervise children without a parent, guardian, or designated adult present. Children’s behavior and safety remain the responsibility of the Client and/or Parent at all times.
Breaks & Facilities
For parties lasting longer than three (3) hours, access to bathroom facilities is required. Brief restroom breaks may be taken as needed and are kept short to minimize interruption.
Activity Considerations
Face paint longevity may be affected by activities such as bounce houses, swimming, sweating, or water play. Touch-ups or repainting are not included in the quoted service time.
Public Events, Festivals & Markets

The line manager is also responsible for holding the line during brief artist breaks, including restroom use, so services may resume efficiently and conclude on schedule. If adequate line management is not provided, services will conclude at the agreed-upon time, even if guests remain in line.
Working Conditions & Safety

Outdoor & Weather-Related Events:
Outdoor events in Oregon are subject to changing weather conditions. The Client or event organizer is responsible for providing an alternate covered or indoor location in the event of rain or unsafe weather.
Artists are unable to paint outdoors when temperatures fall below 45°F unless arrangements are discussed in advance so appropriate preparations can be made.
If Storybook Faces is requested to provide an easy-up tent, lighting, or additional equipment, additional fees may apply. A minimum level space of 10’ L x 10’ W x 11’ H is required. Setup and breakdown time must be accommodated within the event schedule.
Safety & Liability
Storybook Faces uses FDA-approved, cosmetic-grade products and follows industry-standard sanitation practices. While reasonable care is taken, the Client acknowledges that participation is voluntary and assumes responsibility for guest supervision and safety.
Artists reserve the right to decline services to any individual who appears distressed, unwilling, visibly ill, or whose condition may pose a safety or sanitation concern. These decisions are made in the interest of public safety and guest comfort.
